Levande's SBTi Targets Approved
Levande's SBTi Targets Approved
Levande has become the first Australian company to receive official approval of its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets from the global Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) under the buildings sectoral decarbonisation pathway.
Levande’s near-term targets are aligned with limiting warming to 1.5°C, the highest ambition recognised by the SBTi. The approved targets form a key part of Levande’s broader sustainability strategy, including its sustainability-linked loan commitments.
Kevin McCoy, Chief Executive Officer of Levande, said, "Having our targets validated by the SBTi is a significant milestone for Levande and an important signal of our ambition to drive real climate action."
“At Levande, we’re focused on tackling the key issues that affect our people, our villages, and the broader community. Our commitment to sustainability is long-term, and it’s central to how we operate—whether it’s cutting greenhouse gas emissions or embedding sustainable design principles into every new village we build, all these efforts support our ambition to make a meaningful and measurable difference. We’re proud to be leading the way for Australian business."
Tobias Küng, Partner, EQT Infrastructure’s advisory team, said, “As an organisation driven by purpose, we prioritise sustainable value creation across our investments. Levande’s proactive approach to embedding ESG principles into its day-to-day operations is a strong reflection of the kind of long-term thinking we champion. EQT is pleased to back Levande in furthering its environmental and social impact.”
The Science Based Targets initiative will formally publish Levande’s approved target wording on 15 May 2025.
Context: The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global organisation that helps companies set and verify greenhouse gas reduction targets in line with the latest climate science and the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Having environmental targets validated by the SBTi means that a company’s greenhouse gas emission reduction goals have been independently assessed and approved as being scientifically aligned with limiting global warming. SBTi validation signals to the market that the company is a climate leader—proactive, science-driven, and prepared for a low-carbon future.
In summary, it’s the gold standard for corporate climate targets, offering proof that your environmental commitments are more than just good intentions - they’re actionable, aligned with global efforts, and backed by science.
