In June 2023, Helen Taplin- a cherished member of the Levande Brighton Community for over seven years, received a 50-year anniversary Vietnam medal and certificate for her exceptional service during the Vietnam War. Although she served as a nurse, not a soldier, Helen's dedication was no less heroic. For eight months, she cared for wounded soldiers from both sides of the conflict, as well as to locals affected by the war's turmoil.

The caring and committed nature she displayed in Vietnam; can still be seen in the person she is today. Helen's contributions extend beyond her wartime service; she actively looks out for fellow residents at the Brighton community, embodying the same spirit of compassion. Her presence underscores the diversity that defines Levande communities, where every individual's story contributes to a richer tapestry of unity and strength.

Helen Taplin's journey reminds us of the lasting impact of selfless service and the enduring bonds formed through shared experiences. Her story is a testament to the fact that heroism comes in various forms, and the lessons from history can illuminate our present with compassion and unity.
