"I Just Knew This Was the Right Time” - Jill Webb on Her Move to The Cambridge
For Jill Webb, moving into Levande’s The Cambridge isn’t just about a change of address—it’s about stepping confidently into the next chapter of her life. As a recently retired librarian with deep ties to the local area, Jill knew she “didn’t want to wait too long” before making the move into retirement living.
“I watched my parents leave it too late,” she reflects. “They were sociable people, but by the time they moved into a village, they struggled to settle in. I made the decision early—I wanted to do this while I was still young enough to enjoy it.”
Jill first heard about The Cambridge during a community focus group, drawn in by the vision for a connected vertical village in the heart of Epping. It wasn’t just the design that impressed her—it was the people.
"I wanted to do this while I was still young enough to enjoy it.”
A community before the keys
“One of the best parts so far has been getting to know other future residents,” Jill says. “I’ve already met my next-door neighbour—purely by chance on the train to a Levande event! That connection, and the efforts Levande has made to keep us informed and connected before we even move in, really says something about the organisation. They didn’t have to do that, but they did.”
It’s a sense of belonging Jill looks forward to building on. “This is a new community, and I feel like we all have a part to play in helping it grow. Levande is offering us opportunities to come together—and I’m determined to take them.”
Location, lifestyle and the freedom to let go
When it came to choosing the right place, location mattered. “I’m not planning to take my car,” she says. “I’m going car-less! So I needed easy access to public transport—and The Cambridge ticks that box. The Metro, trains and buses are right at the front door. Doctors, chemists—everything I need is close by.”
Jill’s also excited about the design of the building. “I looked at other places that were much more spread out. At The Cambridge, everything is accessible. I can step out my front door, take ten steps to the lift, and be wherever I need to be—regardless of the weather.”
“As a single person, I don’t want to rely on my kids to run around after me. I value my independence."
More than a home—peace of mind
What really sealed the deal for Jill was the confidence that comes from knowing she’ll have the right support around her as she gets older.
“As a single person, I don’t want to rely on my kids to run around after me,” she explains. “I value my independence. And while this isn’t aged care, I know that Levande has my wellbeing in mind—my social life, my health, my safety. That means a lot.”
She also appreciates that an aged care facility has been integrated into a separate area of the building. “It offers continuity. If any of us ever need a higher level of care, we’ll still be connected to the community we’ve built.”
Excitement, not hesitation
“I’m excited,” Jill says. “It’s been a long wait, and we’ve been living in limbo for a while. But soon, I’ll be walking through the front door and saying, ‘This is mine.’ I’ll have my people around me—and my cat, of course! That Levande is pet-friendly was non-negotiable. Without the cat, I wouldn’t be coming.”
With her move-in date on the horizon, Jill is looking forward to finally feeling settled—and to making The Cambridge her own.
